Communication bands
Covering global mobile bands with just 2 filters
In wireless communication between base stations and devices such as smart wearables, data is sent and received simultaneously — referred to as uplink and downlink.
In FDD (frequency division duplexing), these data transfers occur concurrently at different frequencies.
Global radio frequencies are allocated to many different services. The global mobile spectrum spans from 500 MHz to 70 GHz and varies by country, region, and even network operator.
Typically, for mobile and wearable devices, the frequency bands currently in use are in the low band, mid band and high band regions.
Higher-frequency bands deliver higher peak data rates and lower latency, but signals attenuate faster, cover shorter distances, and require a dense network of base stations.
Low-band frequencies — between 500 MHz to 1 GHz — are the backbone of mobile coverage. They travel further, penetrate buildings better, and provide reliable on-the-go connectivity in cities and rural areas alike.
In the low band range, there are more than 15 different frequency bands in active use worldwide, spread across countries, regions and operators.
For a truly global product and to maximise network operator utilisation, these bands must be covered.
Traditional SAW and BAW fixed-filter designs make this challenging. As these filter types are fixed in their frequency and bandwidth characteristics, increasing band coverage required newhardware for each additional band, increasing design complexity, footprint, and cost.
Forefront RF’s FFM51010, powered by our patented Foretune™ technology, is the world’s first tunable duplexer for mobile front-ends.
It can be dynamically tuned across the entire low-band spectrum, covering all bands and bandwidths in a smaller form factor with a simpler radio front-end design.
The result: full low-band coverage worldwide, without adding more components.
By focusing on product design and performance, Forefront RF’s first product, the FFM51010, is offering full coverage in the low-band RF frequencies.
If you want to simplify your RF design, reduce complexity, and unlock maximum network compatibility, Forefront RF is ready to help you deliver truly global connectivity in a compact form-factor.
